Packing Tips for International Travel

An opened luggage with packing cubes

Packing tips for international travel can be handy, especially when you’re going abroad for Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year, and other special events. They’re useful, too, when you go on a holiday to some of the best beach resorts in the world.

Many people who travel internationally and stay there for a long time struggle with packing. They either pack too many unnecessary things or pay more for extra baggage at the airport. The tips and tricks below can help you travel light and save money as you travel to tropical holiday destinations and more outside your country.

Keep your luggage small

The bigger your luggage is, the more stuff you’ll likely to put inside. Avoid carrying too many things by investing in hard-sided luggage with a structured shell that can work as a carry on. It helps limit the items you bring with you, while at the same time making travel more convenient as you don’t have to wait for your luggage at the airport.

Eliminate “just in case I need it”

One of the most effective packing tips for international travel is to avoid packing things “just in case I need it.” Always think twice about what you put in your bag. Make a list of the things you need to bring with you instead of just randomly putting everything in your bag. For example, if you’re going on a week-long trip to some tropical holiday destinations, limit yourself to five pairs of underwear, four tops, three bottoms, two pairs of footwear, a swimwear, and a hat. Bring a dress or a suit in case you’re attending a formal event.

Fill every inch of space

By now you’ve probably read or heard numerous packing tips for international travel. Sometimes, how you pack your clothes depends on your preference. The important thing is to fill every inch of space there is. For example, you can roll your clothes to minimize wrinkles and maximize space. Another is to use packing cubes to help organize your clothes and keep them compact.

Don’t unpack toiletries

You must have a separate toiletry bag with you whenever you travel. It’s a useful technique to avoid forgetting your toothbrush, skincare products, and others. Streamline what you need by bringing products that already serve several purposes. For example, BB creams work as a sunscreen, moisturizer, and foundation in one. Avoid leakage by putting your toiletry kit in a sealed plastic bag.

Dress smartly

Packing tips for international travel also includes wearing the right clothes to create more space in your luggage. Many seasoned travelers suggest wearing their bulkiest and heaviest shoes on the plane. On the other hand, some prefer wearing a jacket and a scarf during their flight to keep themselves comfortable. If you’re going to some of the best beaches in the world, pack lightweight clothes which are lighter and easier to pack.

These packing tips for international travel will serve as your foolproof guide to traveling light and smart. Also, consider doing your laundry while you’re at your tropical holiday destinations. This way, you don’t have to pack a lot and save on your flights, too.
